Good news coming from Image-Line. The upcoming version of FL Studio (20.1.2) will introduce FLEX, a new versatile built-in Synthesizer plugin. FLEX features an advanced multi-synthesis engine with subtractive, wavetable, multisample, FM and AM based synthesis.

• Image Line has announced that FL Studio for Windows has been updated to v12.5.1. Plus, they've also announced that the native, 64-Bit, FL Studio macOS/OS X Beta is open for public testing. Re: FL STUDIO 20.9 BETA 1 Please Test (16 April 2021) FL crashes when adding any 3rd party effect and then pressing Ctrl+Z to undo the operation. Can reproduce it also on empty project. Besides the new FLEX Synthesizer, FL Studio 20.1.2 will introduce a good amount of new features, improvements, and fixes many bugs.

FL Studio comes with included instruments, but they tend to be too simplistic. However, with some of the built-in effects, it’s possible to make them sound better.

FL Studio runs on macOS 10.11 and Windows 8, or later versions. There are mobile options for iOS and Android, too.

Is there a better alternative?

Yes, if you’re a professional, LMMS is the best choice out there. Ableton Live offers similar features to FL Studio. Ardour and AudioTool are great free alternatives.

Although the program comes with some clear limitations, it can do wonders and create complex, well-produced pieces of music from a single interface.
